Tehran (IP) - Iran's Minister of Road and Urban Development said that due to its strategic and geopolitical position, Iran intends to increase its share of daily transit cargo, and its initial target is 50 million tons of transit.

Iran PressIran News: In an exclusive interview with Iran Press on the importance of commodity transit between Iran and regional countries, Mohammad Eslami added that transit is one of the economic advantages of any country, especially Iran, which is located at the crossroads of world transit.

Iran's Minister of Road and Urban Development stated that many enmities with Iran are due to its strategic and geopolitical position.

He said that it is important for Iran to expand transit routes through bilateral and multilateral memorandums and agreements.

Iran intends to increase its share of daily transit cargo, and its initial target is 50 million tons of transit, he remarked.

Eslami added that the agreements between Iran, Russia, India, Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, and other countries in the region have been formed to develop transportation routes.

Increasing the transit capacity between the north and south of Iran can increase the transit capacity of the Indian Ocean countries with Russia and Europe in the form of a south-north corridor Eslami said.

Referring to Iraqi delegations’ visit to Iran heading by Iraq's prime minister, Mohammad Eslami said that all previous agreements for the transportation of goods between the two countries were emphasized.

The Minister of Roads and Urban Development said that he had a meeting with his Iraqi counterpart and had detailed negotiations and agreed on a number of issues.

Eslami expressed hope that these agreements will be used to form a committee both for the transit discussions and to remove obstacles from the Shalamcheh-Basra railway.
