Iran Press/Iran News: Stone carving, turquoise carving, toreutics, pottery, ceramics, leathercraft, marquetry, and wood carving are among the handicrafts in Mashhad.
Stone carving is one of the handicrafts of Khorasan with about five thousand years of history. Mashhad has long been the site of Neyshabur turquoise carving, one of the best gemstones in the world.
About 22 types of gemstones have been identified in Khorasan Razavi Province, and these unique features led Mashhad to be selected as a world city of precious stones in 2016 by the World Crafts Council.
Last year (2019), more than $11 million worth of handicrafts were exported from the Province to Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Kuwait, Australia, and Canada.
