Iran will present a peace initiative in UN General Assembly: Rouhani
President Hassan Rouhani has said Iran will present the "Strait of Hormuz Peace initiative" in the United Nations General Assembly.
Iran Press/ Iran News: President Rouhani made the remark at a farewell ceremony attended by senior Iranian officials before departing Tehran for New York to attend this year's United Nations General Assembly meeting.
Referring to the importance of attending the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), President said, attending the assembly is a very good opportunity for propagating the great Iranian nation’s opinions, Iran Press quoting president official website.
Speaking on Monday at Mehrabad Airport before leaving for New York to attend the 74th United Nations General Assembly meeting, President Hassan Rouhani said, “With regards to the complicated and difficult problems that the Persian Gulf is facing today, this year’s visit to New York to attend the General Assembly is very important”.
"UN General Assembly is a great opportunity for us to express our views to explain to the world about unjust measures being implemented against the Iranian nation and also sophisticated regional issues," President Rouhani said according to Iran Press report.
He added: “This year's trip to New York has significant importance. Americans do not want Iranian delegations to interact in the United Nations, they are scared because our remarks and diplomacy frustrate them, and is a bitter pill for them to swallow."
The President added: "Americans have their reasons to prevent us influencing US public opinion and we should insist on going there at different levels.”
“Our logic and reasoning is strong, today, we are going to the United Nations while Americans have increased their sanctions on the Iranian people, that means complete desperation for the US government. US sanctions and maximum pressure have failed to work, bringing no benefit to the Americans.”
