Iran Press/Iran news: As one of the oldest religious rituals among Azeri-language Iranians, including Ardabili people, the ceremony was held on Thursday night in Ardabil, hosting guests from the adjacent provinces and even nationals from Caucasian region countries, reported Iran Press .
In the ceremony, the mourners of Imam Hussein (PBUH) bringing wash-tubs with themselves and filling them with water by pots in the symbolic memory of Euphrates's water, placing the wash-tubs in the mosques in order for the mourners blessed themselves with the water.
Imam Hussein (PBUH), the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), and 72 of his companions were martyred in the Battle of Karbala, in southern Iraq, in 680 AD after fighting courageously for justice against the much larger army of the then-tyrant Umayyad caliph, Yazid I, which some historians estimate to have been 30,000.
Yazid's mercenaries martyred Imam Hussein (PBUH) thirsty, preventing him from reaching Euphrates water to drink some water.
