Iranian and Pakistani aid groups are dispatching urgent humanitarian aid for the people of Eastern Ghouta, in Syria.

The package of humanitarian assistance includes various food items, medicines and health supplies. Iranian and Pakistani aid workers say more deliveries have been planned for the coming months.

The children of Eastern Ghouta have already suffered through five years of siege and violence. They have been denied education, food, healthcare, and forced to live in basements for months on end to shelter from attacks. Now, as thousands of people flee their homes, those who have survived the fighting face an uncertain future.

After more than seven years of war, some 5 million people have fled to neighbouring states, including around 1.3 million to Jordan, and an estimated 6.3 million people are displaced internally in Syria.
