Iran PressIran news: The illumination of the holy shrine of Imam Reza (AS) is a ritual with a long history, but since about half a century ago, it has become more eye-catching thanks to the Waqf tradition (endowment).

Annually, 20,000 coloured lamps ornate the shrine of Imam Reza, the eighth Imam of the World's Shia.

This ceremony was held simultaneous with the victory of President-elect Ebrahim Raisi in the 13th Presidential Election. He was the custodian and chairman of Astan Quds Razavi from 2016 until 2019.

Astan Quds Razavi (AQR) is an organization based in the Iranian city of Mashhad that manages the holy shrine of Imam Reza (AS).

Observing the coronavirus-related heath protocols, the people of Mashhad and the pilgrims took part in the celebrations held in the shrine on Imam Reza's (AS) birthday.
