At least 8 million people infected to the COVID-19 right now

The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases in the world has surpassed 8 million as of Monday morning while more than 433,000 deaths recorded across the globe since the virus emerged in China late last November.

Iran Press/Europe: The novel coronavirus has infected almost 8 million people worldwide, and killed more than 433,000. More than 3.7 million recoveries were also reported.

The worst-hit US has recorded over 2.1 million Covid-19 cases that have been recorded in the US, including at least 115,000 deaths.

Brazil in the South American Continent stands in second place with more than 860,000 confirmed cases of novel coronavirus and nearly recorded test 44,000 deaths.

The worst-hit countries all come from Europe except India. Russia in the third position with more than 528, 000 cases followed by India in Asia with more than 321,000 and the UK with nearly 298,000 and Spain with 244,000.

Meanwhile, UN agencies warned the coronavirus pandemic could lead to the deaths of an additional 51,000 under-fives in the Middle East and North Africa by the end of the year.

The World Health Organization and United Nations children's agency UNICEF said the disruption of essential health and nutrition services risked "reversing progress (on) child survival in the region by nearly two decades".

China ramps up testing in Beijing after a spike in cases. China's vice premier Sun Chunlan is calling for "decisive measures" in Beijing as the capital moves to mass coronavirus testing after a spike in cases connected to a major wholesale food market.

According to state media, the latest figures show 49 new cases in mainland China, 10 imported and 39 acquired locally - 36 of them in Beijing.
