Gharibabadi sends a letter to IAEA over US unlawful measures

Iran's Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the international organizations in Vienna sent a letter to the Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency warning against the illegal and delinquent behavior of the United States toward its international obligations in the field of nuclear cooperation.

Iran PressEurope: Iran's Ambassador to IAEA, Kazem Gharibabadi stressed in the letter that the US actions violate the provisions of Articles 2 and 3 of the IAEA Statute, Article 4 of the Non-Proliferation Treaty, the General Conference of the IAEA and the UN Security Council Resolution 2231.

Stating that Iran has the right to take compensatory measures against these conditions, he called on the IAEA members to act responsibly to respond appropriately to these illegal US actions.

Iran's Permanent Representative also called on the Director-General of the IAEA to reflect US actions which contradict its commitments in the organization's reports on the implementation of IAEA-related documents.

Under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) agreement, Iran's arms embargo must be lifted on October 20, 2020, after the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) report confirmed that Iran's nuclear program was peaceful.

On May 8, 2018, US President Donald Trump unilaterally withdrew his country from JCPOA by violating Washington's obligations under this agreement and announced the return of nuclear sanctions against Iran.
