Permanent Representative of Russia to the International Organizations in Vienna, Mikhail Ulyanov

Permanent Representative of Russia to the International Organizations in Vienna, Mikhail Ulyanov wrote on his twitter page that US maximum pressure policy on Iran increases tension in the Persian Gulf region.

Iran PressEurope: "The US claims that its maximum pressure policy on Iran is effective. Yes, results are very clear: Increased tension in the Persian Gulf, the suffering of people in Iran, reduced commitments of Tehran under JCPOA, and weakened non- proliferation regime," Russian diplomat tweeted.

"But is there anything positive? No answer," he said.

Ulyanov on May 30 had said that 'blackmailing' seems to be a more appropriate word to the so-called US maximum pressure campaign against Iran as this has nothing to do with diplomacy.

Ulyanov earlier said that all Iran’s deviations from the nuclear agreement 2015 resulted from the provocative maximum pressure policy of the US.

Iran and the 5+1 reached a historic agreement in July 2015 to lift sanctions on Iran and to suspend some of its nuclear activities, but in May 2018, Trump unilaterally withdrew from the agreement and re-imposed sanctions.

With its unilateral exit from Iran nuclear deal two years ago, the United States violated its commitments under the 2015 multilateral accord and a subsequent UNSC Resolution 2231 as well.
