Permanent Representative of Russia to International Organizations in Vienna Mikhail Ulyanov

Permanent Representative of Russia to International Organizations in Vienna criticized the leaking of the International Atomic Energy Agency's confidential report on Iran's nuclear activities in the media and called it insulting.

Iran Press/Europe: "Today’s IAEA report on safeguards implementation in Iran was published by western news agencies 5 minutes after its distribution among members of the Board of Governors. The regime of confidentiality in the Agency doesn’t work at all," Permanent Representative of Russia to International Organizations in Vienna Mikhail Ulyanov tweeted on Friday.

"I am absolutely sure that the leak of confidential IAEA reports on Iran is not the fault of the Secretariat of the Agency. This is the responsibility of some individual Member States who leak the reports to US media in a hope that they will create an unhealthy atmosphere around Iran," he underscored.

In this regard, Iran's Ambassador to the Vienna-based International Organizations Kazem Gharibabadi, announced Friday night that the new IAEA report on JCPOA indicates both the continuation of the Agency's verification of activities and Iran's actions in implementing its decisions to suspend its commitments to JCPOA.

Following the unilateral and illegal withdrawal of the United States from the JCPOA (May 8, 2018), Iran sought to maintain its nuclear deal on the condition that the other parties to the agreement comply with their obligations, but the Europeans did not succeed in doing so.

In this context, the Supreme National Security Council of Iran announced on May 8, 2019, the anniversary of the withdrawal of the United States from the JCPOA, that it will gradually reduce its obligations under Articles 26 and 36 of the agreement balancing between Iran's commitments and its rights.

In a statement issued on Sunday, January 5, 2020, Iran announced the fifth and final step in reducing the Islamic Republic of Iran's commitment to the JCPOA.

According to paragraphs 26 and 36 of the JCPOA, if the other party does not adhere to its obligations, Iran has the right to suspend the implementation of its obligations in whole or in part.

Iran has said it is ready to return to the terms of the agreement if sanctions are lifted and Iran benefits from JCPOA's interests.
