Tehran (IP) - The head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) delegation in Tehran praised Iran's Red Crescent Society (IRCS)’s efforts amid coronavirus pandemic, saying that IRCS has been doing great efforts in managing the outbreak, including treatment, prevention, economic support to affected people.

Iran PressIran News: Speaking at a press conference on the occasion of World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day on Tuesday, the head of the ICRC delegation in Tehran Barbara Rizzoli responded the question of Iran Press correspondent about the role of Red Cross and Red Crescent society in crises, especially the coronavirus pandemic, saying, “The number of activities the Iranian Red Crescent Society is carrying out in coordination with the authorities is remarkable and it really covers a wide range of areas, including treatment, prevention, economic support to affected people.”

The ICRC official highlighted the collaborations between ICRC and IRCS, saying “The ICRC has supported the IRCS with a donation,” giving the example of a cash donation of 5,000 Swiss Francs as a small gesture of what the ICRC has been carrying out.

Rizzoli went on to say that ICRC and IRCS have joint activities, giving the example of an education program in Iran’s western provinces and also the border with Afghanistan.

At the same presser, the head of Iran's Red Crescent Society Karim Hemmati also said that there is a close connection between the Red Crescent and the Red Cross, and this cooperation has expanded due to the coronavirus pandemic.

World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day is an annual celebration of the principles of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. World Red Cross Red Crescent Day is celebrated on 8 May each year.
