Tehran (IP) - The head of contagious disease department at Iran's Health Ministry has stressed that no cases of coronavirus have been observed in Iran and the country is trying its best to keep the virus out.

Iran PressIran news: The head of the contagious disease department at the Iranian Health Ministry, Mohammad Mehdi Gooya, speaking at a weekly government press conference on Monday 3 February, emphasized that no cases of the new Coronavirus have been observed in Iran, and currently there are no confirmed cases of infection by the new virus.

Gooya who attended the press conference alongside government spokesman Ali Rabiei said no case of Coronavirus has been confirmed in Iran.  Commenting on a suspected case of coronavirus in Isfahan, central Iran, Gooya noted that the person concerned was discharged from hospital after his medical test results were negative, showing no infection.

He also said Iran is ready for dispatching human resources and equipment to China and in this regard there has been a meeting with Chinese embassy officials and we are currently awaiting a response from the Chinese side.

The virus is highly contagious. However it does not cause severe problems like SARS, and has a lower mortality rate of about 3 percent.

Rabiei also referred to Iran-China flights, saying that these flights have returned Iranians residing in China back to their country.
