Iran Press/ Iran news: "Although we are far from the desired goal, our progress is commendable," Mahmoud Mahmoudzadeh said in an Exclusive interview with Iran Press on the sidelines of the International Exhibition of Building and Construction Industries in Tehran on Sunday.
The Deputy head of Road and Urban development minister further explained that: "According to the outputs of the Iranian Statistical Center at the beginning of the 1979 Revolution, more than 57 percent of the country's buildings were assessed as unstable. This number has dropped to 5% in our latest statistics in 2016, which is a result of engineering services."
Mahmoud Mahmoudzadeh referred to the death of 30,000 people at the 2003 Bam earthquake and said: "With efforts in the engineering industry, the 2017 Kermanshah earthquake killed less than 1,000, even though the earthquake was more severe. Of course, even if one person gets in trouble, it is unacceptable, but the difference and speed of improving the country's engineering are really evident."
He noted to the competitive qualities of Iranian construction products and said: "The Islamic Republic of Iran is completely independent, indigenous and self-sufficient in the field of the construction industry."
"In recent years we have been exporting engineering services to the various countries, especially our private sector has implemented good projects that are working well to strengthen the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development," Mahmoudzadeh noted.
" Our experts in the construction industry absorb foreign currency and this industry will certainly be continued as a new profitable type of employment in the country," he said.
