Behshahr (IP) - Every year in the winter, thousands of migratory birds make fantastic voyages from the region and surrounding countries to Miankaleh wetland to spend the winter there.

Iran Press/Iran news: The international wetland of Miankaleh which is located in the Northern of Behshahr city, in Northern Mazandaran Province, is one of the most beautiful tourist attractions in Northern Iran.

Miankaleh Wildlife Refuge is located at the southeast corner of the Caspian Sea, the Miankaleh Peninsula separating the Bay of Gorgan from the Caspian.

Miankaleh peninsula also known as Miankaleh Wetland hosts the different species of the migrant birds including pelicans in some seasons.

Early in the morning, the singing of the birds adds to the beauty of the wetland. Every year, in the fall, hundreds of thousands of migrant birds such as Flamingos and Pelicans from all across the world rush into the Wetland to stay there till the end of the winter.

Nowadays Minakaleh's wetland is hosting hundreds of migrant birds as well as tourists.

The entire bay and its adjacent marshes along with the peninsula, an area of about 68,000 hectares (263 square miles), was declared a Protected Region in 1970 and a Wildlife Refuge in 1974.
