Tehran (IP) - The President of Payame Noor University (PNU) Mohammad Reza Zamani said this university has a leading role in developing E-learning and green educational system as a special aid for protecting the environment.

Iran Press/Iran news: The President of Payame Noor University (PNU) Mohammad Reza Zamani in an exclusive interview with Iran Press on the sideline of the 'Environmental Education National Festival' said: "Payame Noor university is considered as a brand in developing E-learning system which is considered as a special aid for protecting the environment. Our aim is the green education."

"We have done so many efforts on saving paper as most of our educational books are E-books and smartphones' books for the students and we have prepared digital forms of the educational content for easier access. We hope the remarkable reduction in paper consumption could help the environment protection," he said.

"During recent years, we have held 25% of our exams electronically, which means less use of paper and in a direct way protecting woods," he continued.

"Synthetic paper is another achievement gained by Payame Noor University. All our printed books are made from Synthetic paper," Zamani said.

"We have used the polymer as the book cover, which has happened for the first time", Zamani underscored.

"Regarding the official process which needed a high rate of paper used, we have tried to change the process into the computerized panel to name our university as the environment protector one," Director of Payame Noor University concluded.

PNU was established in 1988 as a unique ODL (Open and Distance Learning) institution in the country after having integrated the University of Abureihane Birouni and Iran Free University.

The degrees it awards are all recognized and have the same status as those of other state universities.

Presently, PNU has 502 local study centers and campuses which are scattered throughout the country and administered by 31 provincial centers.

It has also an Office of the Coordinating and Planning of the International Study Centers located in the university headquarters in Tehran.

PNU has about 3,148 faculty members and 940,515 students.
