Southern Armenians representative in Iran Parliament, Georgic Abrahamian

Southern Armenians' representative in Iran's Parliament said that the religious minorities in Iran enjoy freedom and prosperity.

Iran Press/Iran news: Georgic Abrahamian reacted to the US' listing Iran as a country violating religious freedom and stressed that the religious minorities in Iran including the Armenians live in a sense of complete peace and prosperity.

Abrahamian called the US behavior towards Iran malicious and said: "It could be seen in the US' political statements that have been issued with the aim of intensifying pressure on the Iranian nation and government," Iran Press reported.

"If international hegemony and Zionism could, they would certainly have used stronger leverages of pressure against the Iranian people, but so far they have failed because the Islamic Republic of Iran's strategy has prevented such attacks," he said, noting that such statements are politically-motivated.

Under the Iranian constitution, recognized religious minorities, namely Christians, Zoroastrians, and Jews, have exactly the same citizenship rights as other Iranian citizens.

Article 4 of the constitution has emphasized respect for religious minorities' citizenship rights, and accordingly, the official religious minorities have been allotted five seats in the Iranian parliament.
