A Senior Aide to Speaker of the Iranian Parliament said that some want to show that Tehran has a role in Baghdad’s unrest, but Iraq’s security is equal to the security of Iran and the region.

Iran Press/Iran news: A Senior Aide to Speaker of the Iranian Parliament Hussein Amir-Abdollahian made the remarks in a Saturday night interview with IRIB TV1 Television channel.

“The US and its allies don’t have a correct understanding of the Iraqi nation and the civilization, culture and the people of the region; So they believe that they can cut the long-standing bond between the Iranian and Iraqi people,” said Amir-Abdollahian.

“The people of the two countries have many historical links and much in common regarding the civilization that even the Ba’athist regime couldn’t break these relationships after about 30 years of ruling,” the Iranian senior official continued.

He went on to say that Iran and Iraq have more than 1600 km of the border in common, adding: “The Americans said that concerning the implementation of the ‘maximum pressure’ policy, they are worried about our neighbors.”

“The US intends to put pressure on the Iraqi government, that doesn’t live up to its demands, by provoking the people and infiltrating the peaceful Iraqi protests,” the Senior Aide to Speaker of the Iranian Parliament noted.

Emphasizing that the rightful demands of the Iraqi people must be taken into consideration, Amir-Abdollahian concluded: “None of the Iraqis would benefit the return of insecurity to their country.”

A number of Iraqi provinces have witnessed demonstrations in recent weeks, protesting the inadequate public service situation, lack of job opportunities and corruption, but the protests have turned violent in recent days and dozens have been killed and injured.
