Efforts to degrade Arbaeen Trek failed: Secretary of SNSC
Khuzestan (IP) - Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani noted that efforts to degrade the elegance of Arbaeen Trek remained ineffectual.
Iran Press/Iran News: Visiting Shalamcheh international border in Khuzestan Province, south of Iran on Friday, the high ranking official said that the Arbaeen Trek and people's enthusiasm indicates that the cultural mission of the great movement is not confined just to the limits of Imam Hussein's (AS) Karbala, in Iraq.
Remarking the magnificence of the great religious ritual, Admiral Shamkhani noted that moving 3,300,000 pilgrims from the easternmost to the southernmost borders of Iran is a huge act, Iran Press reported.
"In spite of all the sanctions, Iran managed to accomplish cultural, logistical and health, and security aspects of moving Arbaeen pilgrims," he remarked.
Meanwhile, the commander of Iran's Police Force Brigadier General Hossein Ashtari on Friday visited the Shalamcheh to closely watch the process of the pilgrims' crossing the border, then attended the Arbaeen headquarters in Khuzestan along with Rear Admiral Shamkhani.
Arbaeen pilgrimage is a distinctively spiritual exercise, gathering Shias as well as Sunnis, even Christians and Zoroastrians, etc. from various nationalities altogether making their ways to the holy Iraqi cities of Najaf and Karbala, walking towards the holy shrine of Imam Hussein (AS) commemorating the 40th day of his martyrdom in the battle of Karbala, in 680 AD.
