Iranian delegation may cancels the visit to New York to participate in UNGA

Iran's Foreign Minister confirmed that the US administration has not issued any visas for the Iranian delegation to participate in the UN General Assembly meeting in New York.

Iran Press/Iran news"My visit to New York has not been set," Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said after a cabinet meeting in Tehran on Wednesday.

"We should see what will happen. Nothing is for sure and we do not have a visa yet," Zarif said in response to a question about accompanying Iranian President Hassan Rouhani in New York visit, Iran Press reported

Earlier reports today indicate that President Rouhani might cancel his visit to New York to participate in the annual UN General Assembly meeting as the US had not yet issued any visa for him and his entourage.

Reports said on Wednesday that no visa had yet been issued by the US for the Iranian delegation, including the president, the foreign minister, and their entourage, so far to attend the 74th meeting of the UN General Assembly.

As the US continues delaying visa issuance in violation of the UN laws, President Rouhani's trip to New York now seems to be more likely to be called off.

The Iranian foreign ministry had on Monday dismissed any possibility for a meeting between President Rouhani and his US counterpart Donald Trump on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly meeting in New York.

On Aug 01, 2019, The US administration has imposed sanctions on Iran's foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, in the latest effort by Washington to ratchet up its “maximum pressure” campaign against Tehran.

The imposition of sanctions against the Zarif comes one month after Washington took the dramatic step of sanctioning the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei. 101/104/205
