The Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has received groups of teachers and Education Ministry officials on the occasion of National Teachers Week on Wednesday.

Iran Press/Iran news: The meeting was held this morning on the occasion of National Teachers' Day on 2 May.

In this meeting, Ayatollah Khamenei dubbed teachers as the builders of the new civilization by asserting: "I am not one to flatter and whatever I have stated during all these years regarding teachers has come from the belief that teachers are the builders of the new civilization. Because without worthy men and women there would be no civilization," Iran Press reported.

He added: You are the fighters in the battlefield against ignorance and illiteracy. With a healthy education system, we will get to the future that we wish for.

The Leader stated, "The healthy education system we seek would nurture wise, capable, thoughtful, virtuous, pious, chaste, efficient, ingenious, brave and practical men and women."

Iranians mark the day in memory of martyred Ayatollah Morteza Motahhari, one of the architects of the Islamic Republic and a man who devoted his life to opening up and writing about Islamic teachings. He was martyred on 2 May 1979. 101/211/202
