Iran's Ambassador to the Vienna-based international organizations Kazem Gharibabadi said the US effort to backtrack itself as a participant in the JCPOA agreement had no legal basis.

Iran Press/Europe: Kazem Gharibabadi on Saturday wrote in "Permanent Mission of I.R.Iran to UN-Viennatwitter" Twitter account that " Paragraph 10 of Security Council Resolution 2231 lists members of the JCPOA".

On May 8, 2018, in addition to withdrawing from the JCPOA, the United States ended its participation in the agreement and did not attend any of its meetings.

Ambassador to the Vienna-based international organizations noted that the United States, as a signatory and participant to JCPOA, has violated all its obligations and has spared no effort to destroy it by re-imposing sanctions and threatening other countries with sanctions if they trade with Iran.

The US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo recently claimed that Washington was a participant in Resolution 2231 and could call for an extension of Iran's arms embargo.

The UN Security Council's anti-Iran arms embargo was imposed in 2006 and 2007 to ban arms sales to Iran and arms exports from Iran.

US attempts to present itself as "JCPOA participant" have no future

Under the JCPOA agreement, Iran's arms embargo must be lifted on October 20, 2020, after the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) report confirmed that Iran's nuclear program was peaceful.

The New York Times on May 27 revealed a US ploy to pressure the United Nations Security Council to extend an arms embargo on Tehran, which is due to expire in October.

According to the New York Times, Mike Pompeo has approved a plan, under which the United States would claim it legally remains a "participant state" in the nuclear deal that Donald Trump has unilaterally withdrawn.

The United Nations UN Security Council added arms embargo on Iran in 2006 and 2007, which is supposed to be lifted on 18 October 2020, five years after the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) Adoption Day.
