The French Interior Ministry announced that 806,000 people demonstrated across the country protested on Thursday, December 5, in protest of the pension law reform.

Iran Press/Europe: The French CGT union said 1.5 million people hit the streets on the nationwide strike brought much of France to a halt but the interior ministry put the number at 806,000.

In Paris alone, between 65 and 250 thousand people protested the pension reform.

Police fired tear gas to disperse protesters in downtown Paris. According to official statistics, 90 people have been arrested in the city.

According to police, at least 33 thousand people in Toulouse, twenty-five thousand in Marseille, and twenty thousand people in Lyon, Montpellier, and Bordeaux poured to the streets.

CGT says a pension overhaul by President Emmanuel Macron will force millions of people to work longer or face curtailed benefits.

According to a French television channel, the demonstration could be among the largest protest rallies in France in the past five years, with more people participated in the march than expected.

Today's protests are also the most widespread protest since the big march of the year 2010.
