The Italian Newspaper 'La Stampa' reported on Friday that the Italian government has decided to ban the flights of Iran's Mahan Airlines to Italy under pressure from Washington.

Iran Press/Europe: Following US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo's visit to Rome, the Italian government will stop Mahan Airlines flights from 15 December, under the US pressure.

Pompeo urged Italian officials to ban Mahan Air from Italy's airspace, accusing the Airline of transporting military equipment to Syria and supporting the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC).

Mahan Air has been under US sanctions since 24 May 2018, and Washington has been urging other countries to penalize the airline.

The United States Department of the Treasury has threatened to impose sanctions on countries or firms offering Mahan landing rights or services.

It is worth noting that Germany and France have also revoked the license of Mahan Air.
