Iran's First Vice President underscored that the continuation of the nuclear deal would only be possible by balancing the obligations, commitments, benefits, and rights of all parties to the agreement, and in particular ensuring that Iran receives the economic benefits which it should receive as part of the deal.

Iran Press/Asia: Addressing the 18th summit of the Council of Heads of Government of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Tashkent, Uzbekistan on Saturday, Eshaq Jahangiri said: "After America's withdrawal from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the Islamic Republic of Iran declared its readiness to continue talks with other parties, and after a year of strategic patience, Tehran began to scale back its nuclear commitments in accordance with the JCPOA."

"If the other parties to the agreement fulfill their obligations, Iran will certainly resume compliance with the JCPOA," he added according to Iran Press.

The First Vice President emphasized that the Islamic Republic of Iran attaches special importance to regional cooperation, stating, "Since regional organizations play an important role in advancing a multilateral approach in the international system, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization can take the lead in this direction."

Jahangiri appreciated and thanked the people and government of Uzbekistan for hosting the 18th summit of the Council of Heads of Government (Prime Ministers) of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and added: “Our world is facing complex, new and dangerous issues. In the face of emerging territorial, international and regional issues, the world system must act on the basis of multilateralism and the cooperation of all members of the international community, and it is imperative that all countries act in accordance with their responsibilities for maintaining international sustainable peace, security, and order, and must not follow the unilateral approach."

The VP added that the Islamic Republic of Iran attaches special importance to regional cooperation. Since regional organizations play an important role in advancing a multilateral approach in the international system, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization can be a pioneer in this direction.

Jahangiri reiterated, "The Islamic Republic of Iran considers regional and international cooperation important in the fight against terrorism and in ensuring international peace and security, and emphasizes the collective confrontation with this criminal phenomenon and the commitment to fight terrorism and strive for a world free of violence."

The first vice president underlined, "The government of the Islamic Republic of Iran expresses regret that, under the bullying policies of the US government, some official and effective counter-terrorism organizations in independent countries are being accused of involvement in terrorism, and are being subjected to double standards in counter-terrorism policies."

18th meeting of the Council of Heads of Governments of Member States of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) opened in Tashkent, the capital city of Uzbekistan on 2 November 2019.
