Iran Press/America: The Democratic-controlled House passed the measure on Thursday by a vote of 224-194 with just three Republicans voting in support. Eight Democrats opposed the measure.
The war powers resolution is not binding on the president and faces an uphill climb in the Republican-held Senate, BBC reported.
Democrats accused Trump of acting recklessly and backed the resolution, while Trump’s fellow Republicans, who rarely vote against the president, opposed it.
The House resolution came about after Trump chose to take unilateral action last week to assassinate the late Commander of Quds Force of the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) Lieutenant- General Qassem Soleimani.
Thursday's measure directed the president to "terminate the use of United States Armed Forces" against Iran unless granted congressional authorization.
With the passage of an Authorization for Use of Military Force (AUMF) in 2001 to fight terrorism, and another AUMF in 2002 for the war in Iraq, Congress’ war powers have diminished since 9/11.
