Security Council fails against Zionist regime: Iranian envoy

Deputy Permanent Representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the to the United Nations Eshagh Alehabib stated that the failure to implement the 365 resolutions of the Security Council on Palestine and the occupied territories is a failure of the Council against the Zionist regime, saying the process could have more devastating effects than war.

Iran Press/America: At a Security Council meeting on peace and security in the Middle East and on the Palestinian issue, Deputy Permanent Representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nation, Eshagh Alehabib on Monday while supporting the Non-Aligned Movement's statement and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, noted that the council has passed nearly 2500 resolutions out of which 365 resolutions partially or completely related to the question of Palestine.

Many of them were exclusively regarding Palestine and adopted under Chapter VII of the Charter. However, none of these resolutions were implemented. Rather, the Israeli regime has continued, with total impunity, to pursue its illegal policies and brutal practices.

This includes systematically committing all four core international crimes. For instance, it waged over 15 wars, invaded all of its neighbors, without exception, and attacked other countries from the Middle East to Africa.

He added that some of them are specifically related to the Palestinian issue and have been adopted under Chapter 7 of the UN Charter but none have been implemented.

Iran's Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations went on to say that in addition, the Israeli regime has continued its brutal acts and illegal policies with complete immunity. This involves systematically committing all four major international crimes. For example, the regime launched a war, invaded its neighbors without exception, and invaded the Middle East to Africa.

On this issue, Iranian diplomat stated that "Unfortunately, this Council has failed in fulfilling its duties regarding Israel", he added "The reason is crystal clear: the unwavering systematic shielding of Israel by the U. S."

Alehabib said the latest example is repeated violations of Lebanese and Syrian sovereignty and territorial integrity and the regime continued to occupy the territories of Palestine, Lebanon, and Syria and to invade the countries of the region.

The regime also continues its expansionist policies by building more settlements, he said. The most recent of these is the Prime Minister's statement on the illegal annexation of the Jordan Valley to the occupied territories.

The Iranian diplomat also referred to the regime's proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, saying that it would reject any adherence to the treaties and would ruthlessly threaten to destroy one of the countries in the region with nuclear weapons.
