Iran Press/ Africa: The Nigerian Presidential Spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale, made the comments ahead of the West African bloc's summit on Thursday. He said the preference may change depending on future resolutions.
So far, the bloc and the United States have failed to convince Niger's coup leaders who have recently appointed a new prime minister.
ECOWAS has imposed sanctions on Niger after rebel soldiers toppled President Mohamed Bazoum on July 26th. Nigeria has slapped new sanctions in an effort to squeez those involved in the coup. That happend after the Niger junta denied a joint delegation from ECOWAS, the African Union and the UN to enter the country for negotiations.
After the coup in Niger, people from different walks of life are emphasizing the withdrawal of French and American troops with demonstrations and gatherings.
ECOWAS has pledged all necessary measures to restore constitutional order in Niger.
