Iran Press/Europe: Delivering a speech on 73rd World Health Assembly, Tedros Adhanom, head of WHO thanked all who supported WHO in this critical condition.
Referring to 2020 which is called the year of nurses and midwives, he said that nurses and midwives have been in the front line of combating COVID-19 and many of them were sacrificed.
"The reports received by WHO last month, showed that the world is in the short of nurses and needs more," he highlighted.
He went on to say that the world has faced many pandemics before this virus. This virus is fast and efficient.
He noted that 4/5 million cases of coronavirus have been diagnosed up to now and it is clear that it will affect the global economy.
This virus brought nations closer more than before and thought our humbleness, he claimed.
Physical distancing has become common in the last 5 months and many countries are facing challenges, Adhanom noted.
"We want the fastest recovery and we know that some countries think to ease restrictions due to their problems, WHO understands it," he underscored.
WHO has been active since day one and supported countries. We have shipped protection equipment to more than 120 countries, Director-General of the World Health Organization said.
The risk remains high and we have a long road to travel, national unity, and global solidarity is needed, Adhanom concluded.
