Iran Press/America: 'Individualists Tending to the Wild' (ITS), an eco-terrorist group, claimed responsibility for the Santiago attack on a website, according to the Chilean newspaper La Tercera.
ITS posted a provocative statement on the internet prior to the attack.
Chilean Prosecutor Claudia Canas, who is leading the investigation, said she could not confirm the group’s claim, but said “all the leads are being investigated.”
An explosive device was placed inside a bag at a bus stop in the center of Vicuna Mackena Avenue shortly before noon local time on Friday, according to preliminary reports.
Apparently, the bag was left unattended at the bus stop, and a person touching the bag triggered the blast, according to Santiago police.
Three men and two women were injured. One of them is a 30-year-old woman, who sustained severe wounds, and is said to be in a life threatening condition, but none of the other injuries is life-threatening.
?The area remains cordoned off following the explosion and explosive ordnance disposal units were deployed to the scene.
Deliberate explosions are rare in the South American country. But in September 2014, a bomb attributed to an anarchist group injured 14 people in Santiago.
