Moscow (IP)- The secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) stressed strengthening the convergence and synergy of Iran and Russia in dealing with common threats.

Iran PressEurope: Iran and Russia share strategic interests in bilateral fields, especially economic, military, and security relations, as well as regional and international issues such as confronting American unilateralism, and this has been one of the main factors of close cooperation between the two sides in recent years.

In this regard and according to the Iran press news agency, "Ali Shamkhani", the secretary of the National Security Council of the Islamic Republic of Iran, met and discussed with " Nikolai Patrushev, the secretary of the National Security Council of Russia, on Wednesday night on the second day of his trip to Moscow.

In this meeting, Shamkhani emphasized the strengthening of convergence and synergy between Iran and Russia, especially in confronting common threats, referring to the growing trend of cooperation between the two countries in various fields.

The Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran called it necessary to curb the insecurity in the region, which is increasing with the guidance and overt and covert interventions of trans-regional countries, and said:" With the participation of all the countries in the region, appropriate solutions should be adopted and implemented to deal with the factors of instability."

Transregional intervention in Afghanistan causes more insecurity in region

Shamkhani also emphasized the necessity of increasing coordination between the two countries in international organizations and forums and strengthening multilateral cooperation in international agreements and treaties such as Shanghai and BRICS.

In the continuation of this meeting, the Secretary of the National Security Council of Russia, Nikolai Patrushev, stated that accelerating the activation of important joint projects, especially in the field of transit and oil and gas, can play the role of a driving force in other areas of cooperation, and said: "Increasing the level of interactions and cooperation Iran and Russia help to strengthen the convergence of regional countries to stabilize the situation in Afghanistan and other crisis centers in the region."

The fifth regional security dialogue meeting was held on Wednesday in Moscow with the presence of secretaries and national security advisors of Afghanistan's neighboring countries, including Russia, Iran, India, China, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan.

Since the return of the Taliban to power in August 2021 until now, Afghanistan has faced very difficult economic conditions due to the unwillingness of the international community to officially recognize this group and unwillingness to cooperate with this country.

The Islamic Republic of Iran has announced the way out of the current situation in Afghanistan by starting a political dialogue and forming an inclusive government in this country.
