Türkiye Vice President Fuat Oktay said that so far 284 people were killed, 2323 people were injured, and more than 1710 buildings were destroyed in the Monday morning earthquake.

Iran PressAsia: Syrian Health Ministry earlier announced that the casualties of a 7.8-magnitude earthquake in Türkiye Gaziantep in Syria raised 237 killed and 639 injured.

According to an AP report, a powerful 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit southern Turkey and northern Syria early Monday, toppling buildings and killing at least 568 people.

Syrian Organization called " Syrian Civil Defence Forces" in the Northwest of the country under the control of the opposition says that at least 147 people were killed and at least 340 people injured.

With hundreds injured, the toll was expected to rise as rescue workers searched the rubble in cities and towns across the area.

The historical castle was damaged in Gaziantep when a major 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck the country's southeast, the epicenter of which is the Pazarcık district of Kahramanmaraş.

While some bastions in the east, south, and southeast parts of the historical Gaziantep Castle in the central Şahinbey district were destroyed by the earthquake, the debris was scattered on the road.

The iron railings around the court were scattered on the surrounding sidewalks. The retaining wall next to the castle also collapsed. In some bastions, large cracks were observed after the earthquake.

On the other hand, the dome and eastern wall of the historical Şirvani Mosque, next to the castle, said to have been built in the 17th century, partially collapsed.
