Tehran (IP) - The head of the Basij Women's Society said: the Basij organization was established to realize the role model for the Muslim woman.

Iran PressIran News: Mina Biabani said on Saturday at the "People-based Organization of Iranian Women" meeting: "Considering that the status of women in the Islamic Republic has been questioned by the outrageous media and the opposition groups in recent months, we decided to hold a meeting to defend the position of women in the Islamic system by citing accurate and reliable statistics, many of which are extracted from foreign sources," Biabani explained about the Basij Women's Society plan.

Atefeh Samai, a gynecologist elaborated on the medical and educational advancements of Iranian women after the Islamic Revolution, saying that after the revolution, the entry into higher education for women, especially in medicine, was encouraged by the Iranian Marja's and other top figures of the country.

Samai said: "With a 17% growth, we have reached 60,000 female doctors in 2018. From 597 female specialists before the revolution, we have reached 30,000 specialists and a 40% growth."

"Before the revolution, there were no subspecialized doctors, but now we have about 5 thousand subspecialized doctors and fellowships. Now, we have 60 midwives for every 100,000 women, which is in line with international standards," she added.

She said even the most remote areas of the country had access to all kinds of radiological services, including breast and fetal cancer screening, noting that while in a country like Norway, which ranks 3rd in terms of welfare, a pregnant mother might never have the opportunity to see a doctor during her pregnancy and might only be visited by a midwife.

Also, Iran has the lowest statistics regarding cervical cancer, which is the most common cancer for women in the world, she concluded.
