Nigeria (IP) - Thousands of people across Nigeria commemorated the third martyrdom anniversary of Lt. Gen. Qasem Soleimani, and the former Deputy Commander of Iraq's PMU, Abu Mahdi al Muhandis.

Iran PressAfrica: On Tuesday 3rd December 2023, in Kano State, the Centre of the Northern part of the country, hundreds of people gathered at the Fagge Eid prayer ground to remember General Soleimani's sacrifices for the betterment of humanity.

The commemorations started with prayer and the recitation of the holy Qur'an for the repose of the souls of Haj Qasem and his companions.

Islamic scholars from different schools of thought also delivered speeches about the martyr Soleimani and al Muhandis' characters. Also, a group of young men organized a parade during the event and sang the Hausa version of the 'Hello Commander' song.

General Soleimani, the commander of the Quds Force of Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), and Iraq's Popular Mobilization Units' (PMU) Second-in-Command Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis were assassinated along with their companions in a US drone strike authorized by the former US President Donald Trump near Baghdad International Airport on January 3, 2020.

General Soleimani and his companions were highly popular because of their key role in eliminating the US-backed ISIS terrorist group in the region, particularly in Iraq and Syria.

General Soleimani was assassinated by the US while he was in Baghdad at the official invitation of the Iraqi government.
