A senior Somali intelligence officer died in a bomb blast on Friday at Gedo region in the southern part of the country, local officials confirmed.

Iran PressAfrica: Authorities are investigating the killing of the senior intelligence officer who had been leading operations against terror groups in Jubaland State, said Yusuf Hussein Osman, security minister of Jubaland.

Al-Shabab, which has intensified attacks on security officers in southern Somalia, claimed responsibility for the bombing Friday.
