Mohammad Rastad the deputy minister of road and urban development and deputy managing director for maritime affairs at the ministry has emphasized that the infrastructure and logistic activities at Iran's commercial ports is to be strengthened.

Iran news: In an interview with Iran Press on Monday, Mohammad Rastad added: "We are trying to improve our port services and logistic services, and we are always trying to upgrade and improve the infrastructure at our commercial ports. This is essential for us."

Rastad added: "For example in Shahid Rajaie port, one of our main commercial ports, we are adding about 2400 hectares of land for services and logistic support to the port. This is an area of land roughly the same size as the port itself. And this is a step towards turning Iran's commercial ports into third generation ports."

In further comments Raastad said: "In other commercial ports, too, we have undertaken similar activities trying to improve and upgrade the maritime infrastructure. For example in Imam Khomeini's port, Chabahar port, and Bushehr port in the south, and the Caspian Sea port of Amir Abad in the north, and other commercial ports. We are trying that our ports are not just for transportation purposes, rather in and around our commercial ports we must see logistic and value-added activities."
