Baghdad (IP) - supporters of Muqtada al-Sadr began leaving the protest site in Baghdad's green zone after the leader of the Sadrist movement directed the Sadrist movement to withdraw from the parliament within one hour.

In a televised speech on Tuesday, the leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, directed the Sadrist movement to withdraw from the parliament within one hour.

Earlier on Monday, Sadr announced that he is quitting political life and closing his political offices.

Following the announcement, Sadr’s supporters stormed the Republican Palace, which is a ceremonial building inside Baghdad's fortified Green Zone of government buildings, clashing with security forces who finally gained control of the palace.

According to Iraqi medics and police sources, 20 people have been so far killed and as many as 350 others injured in clashes in the capital Baghdad.
