Ashura mourning rituals are underway all across Iran to commemorate the third Shia Imam's martyrdom anniversary.

Iran PressIran News: Ashura is the 10th day of Muharram. In the year 61 AH (October 10, 680 CE), Imam Hussein (PBUH) and his true companions were martyred in the battle against the Kufa army led by 'Umar b. Sa'd. This day is significant for Shia due to what occurred in Karbala on this day.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, Muharram mourning ceremonies in all Iranian cities and provinces are held in the open air, observing strict coronavirus protocols, social distancing, and wearing a mask.
