(IP) - The Islamic Republic of Iran was elected to the Tourism Coordination Committee of Islamic Countries for the period 2022 to 2026 by consensus of members and without any dissenting opinion.

Iran PressAsia: The Minister of Cultural Heritage, Tourism, and Handicrafts Seyed Ezzatullah Zarghami is in Baku, the Republic of Azerbaijan to attend the Eleventh Islamic Conference of Tourism Ministers.

"The Islamic Republic of Iran became a member of the Coordination Committee of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation," Zarghami said on Wednesday.

"The committee was originally formed to pursue the implementation of the framework for cooperation and tourism development among OIC member countries. In recent years, the selection of the OIC Cities of Tourism has been added to its tasks," he added.

The committee has 9 members from the three Arab, African, and Asian groups of member countries.
