Iran Press/ Iran news: President Ebrahim Raisi wrote that the demise of the top Shiite authority, Grand Ayatollah Safi Golpayegani, caused great sorrow and grief.
It has also been written in Raisi's condolence letter: this great scholar, who was one of the prominent students of Ayatollah Boroujerdi, Hojjat, and Golpayegani, and after the Islamic Revolution was a member of the First Assembly of Experts and for some time was the Secretary of the Guardian Council, had deep religious insight, asceticism and simplicity and a heart full of love for Islam and the Ahl al-Bayt (AS), especially Imam Mahdi (AS) and dedicated his precious life to the struggle for the spread of Islamic knowledge and the Islamic system.
Iranian president also pointed out that there is no doubt that his everlasting works and his spiritual behavior will always be an inspiration and a beacon for scholars, clerics, and seminaries.
I offer my condolences for this significant loss to the Great Prophet (PBUH), the Supreme Leader, seminaries, his respectful family, and all his followers and disciples, Raisi wrote.
Iran announces public mourning over Marja pass-away
Iran's cabinet announced one day of public mourning over the pass-away of the grand Shia Marja Ayatollah Lotfollah Safi Golpaigani throughout the country.
On Tuesday, February 1, 2022, Ayatollah Safi passed away due to sudden cordial arrest after the physicians failed to resuscitate him. The cabinet announced Wednesday, February 2, as the public morning day.
The Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, extended a message of condolence over the demise of the grand Marja.
With the victory of the Islamic Revolution in 1977, he was elected a member of the First Assembly of Experts a year later and appointed by the late founder of Islamic Revolution Imam Khomeini as the Secretary of the Guardian Council.
