Yemeni army forces have seized control of al-Qaeda's most important and largest terrorist base in the region after heavy fighting in the south of Marib, Yemeni media reported.

Iran PressMiddle East: After fierce clashes with Saudi coalition forces, Yemeni army forces took control of al-Qaeda's largest and most important base in Wadi al-Ubaidah, south of Marib.

Yemeni army forces and popular committees also took control of a large stockpile of weapons and ammunition at the Kerry base.

The "Reform" party affiliated with the ousted government of Mansour Hadi (backed by Saudi Arabia) last February recruited more than 150 al-Qaeda members from Hadhramaut province, 100 from al-Bayda province, and another 70 from Abyan.

It is worth mentioning that the new field progress of the Yemeni army forces in Marib is taking place while the battles between the Yemeni forces on the one hand and the Saudi mercenaries, on the other hand, continue in the south of Marib province.

With the support of the United States, the United Arab Emirates, and several other countries, Saudi Arabia invaded Yemen in March 2015. The outbreak of war by Saudi Arabia and its allies in Yemen has killed tens of thousands and displaced millions of Yemenis.

The Saudi military aggression has also left the impoverished country of Yemen severely short of food and medicine.
