Middle East (IP)- The Bahraini Shiite leader called the opening of the Israeli embassy in Manama a great crime by the Al Khalifa regime.

Iran PressMiddle East: Bahrain's leading Shia cleric Shaikh Isa Qassim in reaction to the opening of the Israeli regime's embassy in Manama, said in Tweet: "What will be recorded in history with the opening of the embassy of this occupying regime is the disgrace and crime of Al-Khalifa against Islam, the ummah and the nation."

Sheikh Qassim also referred to the gap created between the people of Bahrain and Al Khalifa: "The normalization of relations caused the distance between the government and the people to the large extent."

On September 30, 2021, Israel's Foreign Minister Yair Lapid, during an official visit to Manama with his Bahraini counterpart, inaugurated the Israeli embassy in the country, which provoked strong protests from Palestinian groups and the Bahraini people.

In September 2020, through the mediation of the then US administration led by Donald Trump, Bahrain signed a normalization agreement with the Israeli regime called the "Abraham Accords" and officially established diplomatic relations with Tel Aviv.
