Syrian FM calls for US, Turkey withdrawal form Syrian soil

Syria's Foreign and Expatriates Minister received the UN special envoy for Syrian Affairs and called for the withdrawal of the US and Turkish troops from his country.

Iran Press/Middle East: Meeting with UN envoy Geir Pedersen on Saturday, Faysal Mikdad called for respecting Syria’s sovereignty, refusing any foreign interference in the domestic affairs of Syria, demanding an end to the US and Turkish occupations of Syrian territories, and stop their violations of Syria’s sovereignty.

Mikdad also called on all countries to adhere to the international law and the Charter of the United Nations within the framework of their international relations, particularly in terms of not interfering in the domestic affairs of other countries or trying to impose foreign agendas against the interest and determination of the peoples of these countries, according to SANA.

The Minister talked about the impacts of unilateral coercive economic measures imposed by the United States and Western countries on the Syrian people, particularly the health sector, in light of the coronavirus pandemic. Viewpoints were identified that these measures make the situation more difficult. As for the situation in Syria, the Special Envoy talked about his attempts on the international and regional levels, briefing Mikdad on the results of meetings he had held during the past period.

Regarding the Committee of Discussing the Constitution, the two sides stressed the importance of guaranteeing no intervention in the committee’s work and to be led by Syria.
