Tehran (IP) - Secretary-General of Iran's Drug Control Headquarters stated that despite restrictions due to the spread of the coronavirus, and imposition of severe US sanctions, not only has the Islamic Republic of Iran's efforts in fighting against drugs not been interrupted, but also it has made great strides in this regard.

Iran PressIran news: At a special meeting of diplomats residing in Iran on the occasion of the World Drugs Day on Tuesday, referring to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei's emphasis on the fight against narcotics, Brigadier General Eskandar Momeni noted that more than 10 ministries, security, and cultural organizations are cooperating with the Drug Control Headquarters.

Regarding the reasons for Iran's success in fighting against drugs, he said: "The first component is religious and Islamic teachings that pay special attention to saving human beings."

"The second component is the mobilization of all organizations in the country to fight drugs, and the third is Iran's balanced approach," he added.

He described Iran's approach in the fight against drug trafficking as a comprehensive and effective fight against all types of it, along with its treatment and prevention and empowerment of the injured people.

Momeni said he is surprised by the performance of some countries in not fighting drugs, saying that not only they do not help in this issue, but also they create obstacles, and even major international traffickers in some countries are present in the government structure and help to produce new drugs.
