Tehran (IP) – Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman slammed the illegal and aggressive US attacks on areas in eastern Syria as a clear violation of human rights and international law.

Iran Press/Iran News: Saeed Khatibzadeh stated on Friday night: "The attacks, which are a continuation of the Zionist regime's aggression on Syrian soil, have taken place in a context in which US forces have illegally entered Syrian territory in recent years, occupying some areas and stealing natural resources, including oil, which is the natural right of the Syrian people."

He noted that illegal American bases in Syrian also train terrorist forces and use them to achieve their goals.

He described the new US administration's move as a clear violation of Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity and a violation of international law, which would exacerbate military conflicts and further destabilize the region.

US fighter jets bombarded areas in eastern Syria on Thursday night.

The Pentagon has announced that US fighter jets had bombarded positions belonging to resistance groups in eastern Syria on the orders of US President Joe Biden.

Iraq also announced on Friday that US fighter jets had targeted a building and another point on the Iraqi-Syrian border between Al-Bukamal and al-Qa'im, killing one person and wounding several others.

The United States and the Zionist regime have repeatedly targeted the resistance forces' positions in different parts of Syria and Iraq. They have stepped up efforts to intensify pressure on the resistance after the resistance front succeeded in countering terrorist groups in the region.

The United States has had an illegal military presence in Syria since 2014 under the pretext of fighting the ISIS terrorist group and has continued its presence despite repeated requests from the Syrian government.

The US illegal presence in Syria under the pretext of fighting terrorism comes at a time when, according to former US President Donald Trump, Washington has been a major factor in the emergence of terrorist groups, including ISIS.

According to official reports, the United States has so far provided billions of dollars in weapons and equipment to terrorists based in Syria.
