The US Treasury Department on Thursday night imposed sanctions on eight Myanmar generals and three institutions.

Iran Press/America:  Among the officials on the sanctions list is Min Aung Hlaing, the commander of the Myanmar army. The deputy commander, Soe Win, is also on the sanctions list.

According to the US Treasury Department, the sanctions ban targeted individuals from accessing more than $ 1 billion in Myanmar government funds in the United States.

The sanctions name top military commander Min Aung Hlaing and his deputy Soe Win, as well as four members of the State Administration Council.

The sanctions also will affect the Myanmar Ruby Enterprise and Myanmar Imperial Jade Co, businesses controlled by the regime.

The Myanmar army staged a coup on February 1 against the ruling National Democratic Union party, led by Aung San Suu Kyi, in protest of what it called a rigged parliamentary election.

Myanmar military forces have arrested President Win Myint, Aung San Suu Kyi and several other officials. 219
