Fars (IP) - 17th expo of Iranian hand-woven carpet industry is underway in Shiraz, the capital of Fars province in southern Iran, with the presence of the top producers of the genius Iranian art.

Iran Press/Iran News: The producers of hand-woven carpets, kilim, Gabbeh, Jajim (kind of kilim), and pictorial carpets attend the expo from Fars, Tehran, Kerman, Qom, Eastern Azerbaijan, Kohgiluiyeh, and Boyer Ahmad, Isfahan, Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari, Golestan, and Bushehr provinces.

Iran's hand-woven carpet has a special position in all artistic, social, and cultural areas, and plays an important role in the country's economic development. 

More than 20 percent of Iran's hand-woven carpet are produced by 175,000 weavers in Fars province. 

The Director-General of Fars' International Fairs Mahmoud Mousavi noted in the opening ceremony of the exhibition on Monday that 80 percent of the hand-woven carpets produced in Shiraz are in the export market, adding that Shiraz's Vakil Bazaar is the main and oldest center of trading the Iranian genius art.
