More than 100 faculty members from Sharif University of Technology have issued a joint statement warning that the current direction of U.S. foreign policy poses a serious threat not only to Iran’s national security but to global peace and the international order.

Why it matters:

The statement argues that Washington’s recent actions, including targeted killings, abductions, and support for military offensives affecting civilians, have eroded international norms and accelerated instability across multiple regions.

What they’re saying:

The signatories call for:

  • U.S. policies have “crossed beyond the bounds of international law.”
  • The pattern of state‑sponsored violence has contributed to civilian suffering in Gaza, Yemen, Venezuela, Libya, and elsewhere.
  • The international system is being pushed toward a “Hobbesian state of nature,” where raw power replaces law and diplomacy.
  • Measures targeting Iran, from military threats to covert operations and economic pressure, require urgent global attention.
  • Raising global awareness about the consequences of these policies.
  • Condemning interventionism and violence in all forms.
  • Mobilizing national, regional, and international capacities to prevent further erosion of global norms.
  • Collective action to defend human dignity and a just world order.

The big picture:

The faculty members frame their stance as part of a broader responsibility shared by scholars and global citizens. They warn that without coordinated resistance, the world risks sliding into a system where powerful states act without legal or moral restraint.

The statement is signed by 103 faculty members of Sharif University of Technology.
