Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri has called for an urgent meeting of the United Nations Security Council on Wednesday to address ongoing Israeli violations against Lebanon, which have killed 14 people so far. Berri emphasized the importance of filing an official complaint with the UN.

Why it matters:

The request comes amid escalating Israeli military aggression targeting civilians in Lebanon, resulting in civilian casualties, and growing frustrations over Israel’s continued violation of international agreements, including the ceasefire and UN Resolution 1701.

Israel’s military has carried out several air strikes in parts of southern Lebanon, killing at least 14 people.

The big picture:

Israel intensified attacks on Lebanon on Tuesday, despite the ceasefire terms under UN Resolution 1701. Lebanese media reported a drone strike in Al-Tiri injured several people, and another Israeli drone attack on the Ain al-Hilweh camp in Sidon killed 13.

On Wednesday, Israeli warplanes struck a residential building in the southern town of Deir Kifa.

What they're saying:

Nabih Berri, the Lebanese Parliament Speaker, said, “The Israeli enemy continues its crimes targeting civilians, children, and students, with the latest attack taking place in the town of Al-Tiri.”

Berri added, “Lebanon must continue to file complaints with the UN Security Council and demand an immediate session to condemn Israeli violations.”

The Islamic Resistance of Hezbollah issued a strong condemnation on Wednesday of the horrific massacre carried out by the Israeli occupation forces, describing it as a brutal act that adds to the Israeli enemy’s long record of crimes and systematic oppression against Palestinians, Lebanese, and people across the region.
