Vienna (IP) - Iran's Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the Vienna-based international organizations announced the discovery of more than 778 tons of various drugs by the Iranian police in the first 10 months of 2020.

Iran PressIran news: Sending a letter to the Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Kazem Gharibabadi stated: the highest volume of drug detection is related to opium 621,388 kg.

"In the first 10 months of 2020, the Iranian police had 1,914 armed clashes with drug traffickers, which led to the destruction of 1,886 gangs and the transit and narcotics network. Unfortunately, 9 Iranian soldiers were martyred during the clashes," Gharibabadi added.

The Iranian diplomat also criticized some countries for not accepting joint responsibility, saying that the Islamic Republic is a leading role in the fight against smuggling narcotics.
