The European Troika (UK, France, and Germany), in a statement announced activation of UN sanctions on Iran and urged Iran to refrain from any provocative actions following the activation of the sanctions.

UN sanctions snapped back into effect on 28 September 2025 at 00:00 GMT (8 pm Eastern Time on September 27), one month after the E3 triggered the "snapback" mechanism.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, speaking upon his arrival from the UN General Assembly in New York, said the United States is the main obstacle to reviving the 2015 nuclear deal.

Pezeshkian said France, Britain, and Germany, who triggered the "snapback" mechanism, had been told of Iran's readiness to cooperate with the International Atomic Energy Agency during his visit to the UN.

Ahead of the "snapback" mechanism, Iran recalled its ambassadors to the three European capitals.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on Saturday that the snapback was "illegal, void, and has no standing," and "U.S. betrayal of diplomacy and Europe's inaction" created the crisis.
